Why Genuine Parafilm® Is Different
Grafting tape has an important job: it must hold the graft securely, protect delicate plant tissue and prevent excessive moisture loss without simply sealing the plant inside a heavy, non-breathable layer of plastic.
Genuine Parafilm® uses a specialized wax and polymer formulation that combines moisture protection, flexibility and gas permeability. It stretches tightly around irregular stems and graft unions while allowing oxygen and carbon dioxide to move through the film.

Protect the Entire Scion
Parafilm® is useful for more than simply securing the graft union. Because the film is highly stretchable and helps reduce moisture loss, many grafters use it to wrap exposed portions of the scion as well.
This helps protect valuable grafting material from drying while the graft begins to callus and establish a union. The thin film is also designed so developing buds can push through as new growth begins.
Easy to Use
- Cut or tear off the amount of Parafilm® needed for your graft.
- Gently stretch the film as you wrap it around the graft union.
- Overlap each pass to create a secure, moisture-protective seal.
- Press the stretched film against itself so it adheres.
- Wrap additional exposed scion tissue when desired to help reduce moisture loss.
Because Parafilm® stretches to more than twice its original length, a little tape goes a long way.
