Boca Hydro Naphthaleneacetic Acid (NAA) 98% is a high-purity synthetic plant growth regulator (auxin) used to promote root initiation, cell division, and callus formation in tissue culture and propagation systems. NAA is an essential component in many Murashige & Skoog–based media and other micropropagation protocols where root induction and organogenesis are desired.
This fine, water-dispersible crystalline powder ensures consistent performance in plant tissue culture, hydroponics, and advanced propagation applications. NAA functions similarly to natural indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) but is far more stable, making it ideal for long-term storage and use in liquid or agar media.
Formulated for professional laboratory and research use, Boca Hydro NAA is compatible with most plant growth regulators including Cytokinins (BA, Kinetin, TDZ), GA-3, and IBA, allowing fine-tuned control of morphogenesis and rooting response.
Typical Applications
-
Tissue culture rooting and callus formation
-
Stem and leaf explant regeneration
-
Rooting of cuttings and microshoots
-
Auxin balance adjustment in combination with cytokinins
Preparation and Dosing for 1 L of Finished Solution
Stock Solution (Recommended for Tissue Culture Use):
Because NAA is only sparingly soluble in water, it must first be dissolved in a small amount of ethanol or NaOH before dilution.
To prepare a 1 mg/mL (1000 ppm) stock solution:
-
Dissolve 0.1 g (100 mg) of NAA powder in 1–2 mL of 95% ethanol or a few drops of 1 N NaOH.
-
Once fully dissolved, bring the volume up to 100 mL with distilled water.
-
Store the stock solution in a dark bottle at 4 °C. Shelf life: 6–12 months.
To prepare a finished liter of tissue culture medium (e.g., MS or basal medium):
-
For root induction: use 0.1 mg/L – 0.5 mg/L (0.1–0.5 ppm) NAA.
→ Add 100 µL to 500 µL of the 1 mg/mL stock solution per liter of medium. -
For callus induction (in combination with cytokinins): use 1 mg/L – 2 mg/L NAA.
→ Add 1 mL to 2 mL of the 1 mg/mL stock solution per liter.
Usage Notes
-
Sterilize the medium by autoclaving before adding heat-labile compounds.
-
Add NAA stock after autoclaving and cooling the medium to ~50 °C.
-
Maintain pH between 5.6 – 5.8 before sterilization for optimal performance.
-
Compatible with Boca Hydro MS Medium, BA 98%, Kinetin 98%, and IBA 98%.
