Boca Hydro MS-TCM Multiple Species Plant Tissue Culture Medium
Complete MS-Based Medium with Sucrose & Agar — One Formula for a Wide Range of Plants
Boca Hydro MS-TCM is a complete, ready-to-prepare Murashige & Skoog based plant tissue culture medium formulated for micropropagation, in-vitro plant growth, shoot development, rooting, callus culture and other plant tissue culture applications.
Unlike basic MS salt mixtures that require the user to separately measure sugar, agar and other components, Boca Hydro MS-TCM already contains MS macro and micronutrients, vitamins, organic components, sucrose and agar in one convenient dry blend.
Simply measure the required amount, dissolve in distilled water, adjust pH when desired, dispense and sterilize according to your laboratory protocol.
The result is a versatile basal medium suitable for a broad range of plant species and tissue types, giving hobbyists, growers, laboratories and micropropagation facilities a convenient starting point for plant culture.
One MS Medium for Multiple Plant Species
Murashige & Skoog medium is one of the most widely used basal media in plant tissue culture. Originally developed by Toshio Murashige and Folke Skoog in 1962, the MS nutrient system provides the mineral nutrition required to support plant cells and tissues under controlled in-vitro conditions.
Boca Hydro MS-TCM builds on this proven nutritional foundation while combining the major components needed for preparing a complete culture medium into one easy-to-use blend.
A Complete Medium — Not Just MS Salts
Boca Hydro MS-TCM combines the major nutritional and physical components required to prepare plant tissue culture medium. This eliminates much of the repetitive weighing normally involved in preparing a complete medium from individual ingredients.
Macro Nutrients
Supplies the primary mineral elements required in larger quantities, including nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and sulfur.
Micronutrients
Includes essential trace elements such as iron, manganese, zinc, boron, copper, molybdenum, iodine and cobalt to support normal plant metabolism and enzyme function.
Vitamins & Organic Components
Contains inositol, glycine, thiamine, pyridoxine and nicotinic acid as part of the complete culture formulation.
Iron + EDTA System
Ferrous sulfate is paired with EDTA to help maintain iron in an available form within the prepared culture medium.
Sucrose Included
Each liter prepared at the standard rate contains approximately 30 grams of sucrose, supplying a readily available carbohydrate and energy source for in-vitro cultures.
Agar Included
Approximately 7 grams of agar per liter is already incorporated into the blend to produce a semi-solid culture medium after preparation and cooling.
Why Plant Tissue Cultures Need a Complete Medium
Plantlets growing inside a culture vessel cannot obtain nutrients from natural soil. Every essential mineral, carbohydrate and supporting component must instead be supplied through the culture medium.
Boca Hydro MS-TCM provides a balanced nutritional environment designed to support cell metabolism, tissue development and continued plant growth under controlled culture conditions.
- Provides both nitrate and ammonium nitrogen
- Supplies phosphorus and potassium for plant metabolism and development
- Provides calcium and magnesium for structural and metabolic functions
- Contains iron plus EDTA for improved iron availability
- Includes a complete range of essential trace elements
- Contains vitamins and organic components used in MS-type culture media
- Includes sucrose as an energy and carbohydrate source
- Includes agar for preparing semi-solid culture medium
- Can be customized with plant growth regulators for specific protocols
Designed for Micropropagation & In-Vitro Plant Culture
Micropropagation
Use as a basal medium for rapidly multiplying plants from small quantities of clean starting material or established explants.
Shoot Culture
Provides the mineral nutrition and energy source required to maintain and develop shoots during in-vitro propagation.
Root Development
Suitable as a nutritional base for in-vitro rooting protocols. Auxins such as IBA may be incorporated when required by the plant or propagation protocol.
Callus Culture
May be used as the basal nutritional medium for callus induction and maintenance when combined with the appropriate growth regulators.
Plant Regeneration
Adapt the medium with the appropriate plant growth regulator program for shoot induction, multiplication, elongation or rooting.
Research & Experimental Culture
A convenient standardized nutritional starting point for growers, educators, laboratories and experimental plant culture work.
Compatible with Plant Growth Regulators
Boca Hydro MS-TCM is supplied as a complete basal nutrient medium and does not lock the grower into one hormone program. Plant growth regulators can be added separately according to the needs of the species, tissue type and stage of culture.
This makes the same base medium adaptable for many different protocols. Growers can modify the prepared medium with auxins, cytokinins or other culture additives when required rather than purchasing a different complete nutrient blend for every stage.
250 Grams Makes Approximately 6 Liters
Because sucrose, agar, mineral salts, vitamins and supporting components are already incorporated into the dry blend, there is no need to separately weigh the standard sugar and agar portions when preparing the medium at the recommended rate.

Important Culture Notes
Plant tissue culture response varies considerably among species, cultivars, explant types and stages of development. MS-TCM provides the nutritional foundation, while plant growth regulators, lighting, temperature, sterilization technique, explant preparation and other culture conditions may need to be adjusted for a specific protocol.
Some species perform well on standard-strength MS-type nutrition while others may require modifications to mineral concentration, PGRs, carbohydrate level or other culture parameters.
Always use appropriate sterile technique and a validated sterilization procedure when preparing media for in-vitro culture.
